Thermal Foggers
Thermal foggers work by heating up a coil within a metal tube, causing the liquid disinfectant solution to vaporize. The fogger then propels this vapor (consisting of hundreds of tiny droplets) out into the environment in the form of a visible cloud. Droplet sizes vary by model but thermal foggers typically produce tiny droplets, with a minimum diameter of 1 micrometer. These smaller droplets and visible fog make thermal foggers ideal for outdoor applications as minuscule droplets excel in penetrating foliage, and visible fog is easier to monitor and direct which allows for greater efficiency. Thermal foggers are also ideal for indoor applications as the small droplets are ideal for delivery the disinfectant into cracks and crevices of floors, walls, ceilings and other areas.
ULV (Ultra Low Volume) Foggers
ULV foggers are also known as cold foggers as they don’t use heat. Rather, they produce fog using pressure in one of two ways. Either the disinfectant solution is pumped through a high-pressure nozzle or slowly sent through a vortex of high-speed air. The pressure formed breaks the liquid up into tiny droplets, which then spray out as an invisible fog. The lack of heat (and therefore fire risk) makes ULV foggers safer for indoor use. They are also quieter than thermal foggers. As the fog they produce is invisible, it makes ULV foggers ideal for spray large outdoor areas such as whole neighborhoods and bases where visible fog could cause alarm. ULV foggers generally produce slightly larger but more precisely sized droplets, with a minimum diameter of 2 micrometers that can be varied by the operator. In addition to versatility, ULV foggers use less disinfectant which makes them even more environmentally friendly and economical.
